The story of Lee Chan, a tycoon in the business world, through the narration of his neighbor Richie King. As Richie King tells the thrilling mystery that surrounds Chan, images of strange shadow creatures and the mystical culture in the Philippines come alive. Richie’s home gets attacked by frogs and snakes that belong to Chan, all the while Richie comes in contact with several supernatural entities who were related to Lee Chan. Chan’s history is that as a young boy he immigrated from China to Manila in 1930, rose to becoming a multibillionaire through business knowledge, hard work and frugality. But Richie discovers that Lee’s grandmother’s spirit also followed him from China and helped him reach the heights very few have achieved. Follow along with Richie King’s story as he unearths the mysteries that surround his neighbor Lee Chan.
8 Frog Street is a novel filled with mystery in intrigue, it opens with a short background of our narrator and sets up the scene where the story takes place. It’s a great way to help the reader to visualize the story they are about to read. This is a book that is easy to read, meaning it flows very smoothly, and doesn’t have moments that feel dull or slow moving. The pace is perfect for the type of story Khan is telling to his audience and draws readers into his words.
Rezaul Kahn does a wonderful job at creating an atmosphere of “the unknown” by using the experiences of another character. Readers learn a lot about not just Lee Chan, but also Richie King as the story progresses. He becomes a character that many readers can feel a strong connection with. Rezaul Khan portrays many superstitions of Manila’s people to bring alive the cultural beliefs of the Philippines citizens. Readers will be captivated by stories of a mysterious woman in white, frogs and a giant snake invading the streets, and mysterious piano music at night.
8 Frog Street is a story about one man trying to discover the truth behind another and finds himself a part of the mystical underworld people tend to overlook. Readers will be captivated by Rezaul Khan’s storytelling leaving them craving more. If you are a fan of supernatural/paranormal mysteries and thrillers then this is definitely the ride you want to take.
