Hollywood Book Reviews

With an abundance of imagination, an artful skill of illustrating and a fine storytelling talent, author and artist Theodora Klein-Carroll has created the quintessential illustrated children’s book titled Tippy and the Runaway Cloud.

Tippy, a raindrop, floating above a corn field, looking down notices the plants drooping, in need of a good watering. Tippy needs to find Puffy Cloud, but becomes confronted with some obstacles. Tippy had to get around Grumpy Lumpy in order to find Puffy Cloud, so onto his loyal cloud pony Misty, Tippy went, “yuppa hey” away! All of the action of these fanciful characters blend seamlessly into a bedtime story which will stir the imagination of the readers.

The story is adorable for the lower single-digit children’s audience it is intended for. The pictures are very well done; in fact the composite picture on page 17 is so inspiring it could be cut out, framed, and placed on the wall of an infant’s bedroom. There is a drawing of multi-colored raindrops bringing water and life to the corn field, which is a very powerful subliminal message for children, in my opinion.

Theodora Klein-Carroll follows up her story with a few “cut-outs” of Tippy allowing for children to bring to their own imagination a sequence of adventures of this personified raindrop. By having this appendix to the story, I believe it would be best to view this book in its printed format.

Having the story of Tippy grace the nightstand of little ones in their bedrooms, Tippy and the Runaway Cloud will add a new, creative and imaginative friend to the bedtime story characters children grow up dreaming about. As the foundation is now set for sequels, I hope to read new adventures of Tippy and how he cleverly solves other situations in the future.
