Author Interview with Dewey B. Reynolds

Today we are talking to Dewey B. Reynolds author of Stuart Duffelmeyer and the Masters of Plagues.

HBR: Tell us a little about yourself. What drove you to become a writer?

I am a 1040X clerk with the IRS. I have worked for them for almost 25 years. In my spare time, I love to cycle, travel, and read. What drove me to become a writer is those creative juices that flows through me like nitro fuel. Having believed that I’ve always had a creative mind, I knew that I could write stories with believable characters, imaginary worlds, breathtaking scenery, and astounding dialogue. Writing is also very therapeutic for me. For relaxation, I plant myself in front of my computer and go to work.

HBR: What was the inspiration for your novel, STUART DUFFELMEYER AND THE MASTERS OF PLAGUES?

Stuart Duffelmeyer and the Masters of Plagues actually started in New York City on the Six Train back to the Flatiron District of Manhattan. I was in New York for an independent film festival back in 2010. On the train, I saw this young guy who looked Jewish and highly intelligent. I imagined him having supernatural powers through a magical Hebrew talisman, in which he could control all the creatures and natural forces of the Earth. This guy looked like a true scholar, with his head buried in college textbooks while studying extra hard. For some strange reason, the name Stuart Duffelmeyer kept ringing in my head. When I got back to Kansas City, I hurried up and got started on the book.

HBR: What theme or message do you hope readers take away from your novel?

The book actually takes the reader on a supernatural adventure; in which the story talks about revenge, forgiveness, and redemption. I want my readers to know that revenge can be an option against perpetrators, but some of life’s most valuable lessons can be learned from reading this story. So, if someone has ever been bullied or badly mistreated, they will definitely cheer on the main character Stuart Duffelmeyer.

HBR: If you could sit down with any of your characters in this novel, who would it be and what would you want to ask them or talk to them about?

No doubt it would be the main character himself, Stuart Duffelmeyer. I would ask him if getting even with all those who committed the horrible prank on him, did it make him feel better. I would ask him if he felt as though if he was abusing his powers through the magical Hebrew talisman. I’d like to know if there were any other alternatives to setting those straight who wronged him. Did it make him feel good about using the powers of the talisman for the good of mankind? Was it beneficial to have Rabbi Irwin Wedemeyer guide him from the spiritual realm?

HBR: What’s next for you going forward? Any new books or projects on the horizon?

I have so many stories in my head until it’s ridiculous. I actually have two unpublished manuscripts in the Stuart Duffelmeyer trilogy series. And boy are they exciting! Currently, I am working on a story about a deadly confrontation between a U. S. President and a top Mafia boss in the early 1970s. Believe me, I set no limitations on my creativity.
