Extraordinary people are often forced to adapt and survive the pitfalls of everyday humanity and find a way to embrace the wonders that life has to offer. As US Military General Omar N. Bradley once said, “With the monstrous weapons man already has, humanity is in danger of being trapped in this world by its moral adolescents,” showcasing how for every advancement and evolution mankind takes, there will always be those who seek to maintain the status quo.
In author Cliff Ratza’s fourth book, The Girl Who Cloned Lightning: A Novel, the story of Electra-Alisha continues. Picking up right after the harrowing conclusion to the third novel, the story sees Electra surviving against all odds and soon finds herself forced to find a cure to a T-Plague mutation while battling super soldiers and a secret organization allying with both Russia and China, pitting her against enemies in all arenas of her busy and powerful life.
The author continues to do an amazing job creating a vibrant mythology filled with converging storylines and a protagonist who tackles many facets of life all at once. From entering the political arena once more, to action-packed missions abroad and moments of self-discovery and reflection on the parent she never truly met, Electra-Alisha is a fantastic protagonist to view this advanced world through. The blend of these different storylines makes this story truly come alive.
This is a book for anyone who enjoys tales of action, politics, science fiction and adventure. As a fan of all these genres, it was easy to get swept up in the larger mythology the author has been building across four novels thus far. The thing that always sticks out to me as a reader is that while the narrative serves readers well when they have enjoyed the other books in the series, each book gives adequate time and backstory to stand alone as its own book as well, giving new readers the nudge they need to dive head first into this sprawling narrative.
An action-fueled, fast paced yet lengthy read, author Cliff Ratza has done it again with a remarkable world and well-rounded and advanced protagonist that readers will not be able to help getting behind. Once more ending with an action-packed cliffhanger, The Girl Who Cloned Lightning is a brilliant book that is not to be missed, so be sure to grab your copy today!
