If there was one thing that most people clamored for in life, it would be justice. Far too often people are victimized by others, and any lack of justice creates a sense of defeat amongst us all, making the pursuit of justice all the more important. As author Lois McMaster Bujold once said, “The dead cannot cry out for justice. It is a duty of the living to do so for them.”

In author Roger William’s psychological thriller Dangerous Bureau, the hunt for a deadly killer uncovers a vast conspiracy unlike anything else. Young housewife Tara Helms and her husband endure the impossible, as their young daughter Cindy is one of the latest victims of a brutal serial killer. After a series of shocking events uncovers the killer’s identity, the closure she had hoped for from his capture only opens another can of worms, as she discovers a conspiracy involving a shadowy government operation known as The Intellect Bureau. Run by the shady Eric Colvin, the organization takes on criminals no matter how brutal their backgrounds, and utilizes their intellect for their own purposes. Tara and a former member of the group must work together in order to bring them down once and for all, and truly get the justice Tara and her husband have been searching for.

Dangerous Bureau is both haunting and a heart-pounding thriller! Author Roger William’s novel is a whirlwind of emotions as readers are taken on this wild ride through the minds and actions of some truly twisted criminals, and the few people who try to stop them in their tracks. The first half of the book, dealing with this local town and the serial killer haunting it, was a great way to lead readers into the larger narrative of the conspiracy, establishing the kind of twisted minds this agency is recruiting and the innocent people affected by these individuals who are the most at risk. The story was well established and the characters felt real and personal, making their story arcs very relatable to readers.

This is the perfect read for those who enjoy psychological thrillers, most notably those within the fictional crime drama genre, and character studies that delve into the psychosis of a criminal mind and deal with the emotional fallout of the families of these criminal’s victims. As a fan of the genre, it was easy to get wrapped up in the developing plot and be both entertained and terrified all at once.

Incredibly thrilling, powerfully written and a lengthy yet entertaining read, author Roger William’s Dangerous Bureau is a must-read psychological and crime thriller of 2020. The action is intense and the mission of a mother seeking justice for her lost child makes this story really stand out. The author’s ability to go to places very few are able and capture the haunting realism of these crimes within the unreal plot lines of the overall story make this a standout amongst others within the genre.
