Within the last decade in particular, there has been a large divide within the political parties in the United States. This has been an increasingly tension-filled problem for our country with both sides feeling they are 100% right and the other side is 100% wrong. While this is bound to happen no matter what you do, it is always important that no matter what side of the fence you fall on, you have an open mind and listen to what the opposing side has to say. It is not always going to be easy, but in the long run, it may eventually lead to an understanding of each other which was not previously there. This is just one aspect of what I took from author Carl Berryman’s book, Divided We Fall.

In this story, Berryman covers a lot of ground with intense characters displaying a lot of depth which immediately draws you in. These characters are strong-willed and are resisting the tyrannical government which is attempting to control their every move, including limiting their most basic human rights. It is certainly reminiscent of how a good portion of Americans have felt suppressed over the years, while others are comfortable with the politically-correct nature of the country. It is an interesting take on the modern political climate which many have found themselves in, and dives into the psyche of the people who feel their rights are being taken away; resulting in the emotional toll on a population.

This book definitely lives up to the thriller aspect of its genre with the way the author weaves the tale at a perfect pace, leaving readers more and more on the edge of their seat as the story progresses. Possibly the best takeaway from this novel is to listen to the important issues people have with our government, no matter which side you find yourself on. Regardless of who is in charge of the government – currently or formerly – there are always going to be those who feel their voices are not being heard by those at the highest level which is detrimental to our society. It can lead to anarchy of the highest order, which you can see illustrated in this tale by Berryman. It may be fictitious, but you can see the real-life elements sprinkled all throughout. I recommend you read this well-written and intriguing novel, Divided We Fall by Carl Berryman.
