One of the most sought after and talked about scientific pursuits is looking towards the future and past, in the way of time travel itself. While the subject has been a source of entertainment in the world of science fiction for years, modern day pursuits have revealed a real possibility that time travel could one day become a reality. As renown theoretical physicist Dr. Michio Kaku once said, “In Einstein’s equation, time is a river. It speeds up, meanders, and slows down. The new wrinkle is that it can have whirlpools and fork into two rivers. So, if the river of time can be bent into a pretzel, create whirlpools and fork into two rivers, then time travel cannot be ruled out.”

In author Dan Arthur Busby’s Lost in Time, the author explores a future where the US government has taken control of the use of time travel. As part of their control over the technology, the government has begun sending prisoners to various points in history, where they can do the least damage and be removed from society. However, things take a turn when one of the men who helped build the technology, Jimmy Dantly, is falsely accused of being responsible for the death of a coworker in a work accident. He is sentenced to the prehistoric age, and along with two other prisoners he must find a way to not only survive the dangerous period of time, but find a means of escaping.

This is a truly entertaining sci-fi read. Fans of the genre will thoroughly enjoy this story, as the author expertly blends the scientific nature of the genre with incredible fantasy elements of prehistoric exploration, and creates an atmosphere very similar to H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine with a futuristic twist. The thing which truly stood out about this novel however was the way the author was able to pack in so much character growth and sci-fi mythology into such a short narrative, allowing the reader to quickly jump into the action and get into the characters’ stories without missing a beat.

Author Dan Arthur Busby’s story is the perfect read for those who enjoy science fiction and fantasy narratives, especially those who are fascinated with the concept of time travel, exploration, the prehistoric age, and even themes of the pitfalls of the criminal justice system overall. As a fan of these genres, I found myself deeply engaged with the narrative, and only wish there was more story to sink my literary teeth into.

An engaging, action-fueled and sci-fi epic fantasy story, author Dan Arthur Busby’s Lost in Time is a must-read short story. The book immediately draws the reader in and the characters do a fantastic job of drawing out that feeling of survival and facing our fears of the unknown well.
