Hollywood Book Reviews

Scary stories, things that go bump in the night, urban legends and folklore are just some of the things that consistently fascinate us.  Take haunted house stories, for example.  We are drawn to an eerie tale of spirits unable to rest or cross over to the other side.  In recent years the paranormal investigation field itself has grown by leaps and bounds and everyone wants to go out and explore locations which are reputed to be haunted.   What location could be more intriguing than a reportedly haunted castle?  This is what makes Harle H. Tinney’s book The Ghosts of Belcourt Castle an incredibly interesting read.

Belcourt Castle is a historic 60-room castle on the world-famous Bellevue Avenue in Rhode Island.  The Tinney family saved it from being demolished when they purchased it in 1956 as many other mansions were considered to be functionally obsolete.  They lovingly restored it and filled it with antiques from 33 countries as well as 37 Newport landmarks.  With numerous reports of unexplained phenomena throughout the castle, one school of thought was that the antiques were the catalyst for spirit activity.  Whatever the cause, there are enough anecdotes of unexplained activity at Belcourt Castle by family and visitors alike to make even the staunchest skeptic take notice.

What I love about this title is learning the history of this beautiful castle, all the while being enthralled by the stories of unexplained occurrences that have had a lasting impression.  There are numerous accompanying photographs that show the grandiosity of the castle itself.  There are also spirit photographs included which reportedly show such specters as the white sheet ghost and the monk.  The intriguing nature of the ghosts aside, the photographic walk-through time the images of the castle presents is truly fascinating.

Belcourt Castle was open to visitors and guided tours for many years.  Mrs. Tinney herself would give lectures during these tours in specific spots in the castle.  That kind of personal involvement in sharing the stories of Belcourt Castle with the public is the same sentiment that went into The Ghosts of Belcourt Castle.

The author weaves you through the history, the majesty and the mystery of the castle effortlessly and with personal detail.   Whether you are a novice or a paranormal enthusiast, The Ghosts of Belcourt Castle will hold your attention to the very end.   Be sure to add this one to your library today.
