Interview “The Great Little Tailor” – Hollywood Book Reviews
Today we are talking to Isabel Cintra, author of The Great Little Tailor.
PBR: What inspired you to start writing children’s books?
I was very influenced by the illustrations that my brother designed during our childhood. We spent a lot of time together and I loved giving titles to the drawings he created.
HBR: Tell us a little about yourself and what inspired you to write “The Great Little Tailor”.
Akin, is a character that resonates with me personally. My goal with this book is to children become confident and courageous when faced with difficult situations. The book’s message is about courage and optimism; skills that are important for all of us to learn.
HBR: I felt that this book showed why it is important not to give up on yourself or your dreams. Was that the main lesson you would like children to learn from this book? If not, what is it?
It is very important for me to promote the concept that “your dreams can come true.” There is nothing that can stop children from reaching for the stars. I hope that my books serve as an incentive to breaking down barriers and facing obstacles with confidence.
HBR: I loved seeing the intimate relationship between father and son in this story. What do you hope the future holds for you after the end of this book?
Akin and the father knew each other’s weaknesses and strengths. Readers soon learn there is a strong bond of affection between them, something that is so importnat in raising children. These are lifelong bonds that will last forever. This particular story includes a list of challenges and success that follows from working as a team. These are things I admire in a family and wanted to show in this book.
HBR: Who was your favorite character to write and why?
Without a doubt, Akin. From the beginning, I had the image of his perfect face in my mind. I wanted to challenge myself to write about a character who was fragile, sweet and who was at the same time extremely brave. In the end, it was a wonderful feeling to discover that I had managed to create this beautiful boy.
HBR: Do you think Akin will follow in his father’s footsteps and be an amazing tailor when he gets older?
Akin learned a lot from his father over the years and has the advantage of having a “dreamy spirit”. I have no doubt that he will be a brilliant professional.
HBR: Were there any characters in this book who were inspired by someone you know personally?
Honestly, the inspirations are a combination of both: fantasy and reality.
HBR: Do you have plans for another book? If so, can you tell us what this is about?
I am currently working on the last details of a book targeted at an adult audience. It is about a girl who seeks her place in the world.
