Author Interview: D.S. England
Today we are talking to D.S. England, author of “ I’m Just A Girl.”
HBR: What inspired you to start writing?
My earliest memory is writing short stories in the second grade that my teacher would read to the class.
HBR: How long have you been writing? See above
HBR: What advice would you give a new writer, someone just starting out?
Write for yourself and believe in what you write.
HBR: What comes first, the plot or characters?
Main Character and ending. I know you have to have a good hook. But I have read too many books that quickly draw you in and then fizzle out. I like to write to my ending.
HBR: How did you develop your plot and characters in “I’m Just A Girl”?
I was sitting at a bar having dinner and my heroine fell fully developed into my head. Then I decided how I wanted her story to end and developed the plot and characters to get her there.
HBR: Where do you get your inspiration?
I had read that J.K. Rowling said that the character of Harry Potter just fell completely developed into her head one day riding on a train. This was of great inspiration to me, as the same thing happened to me with my heroine, only without the train.
HBR: Where can readers purchase your books?
My website www.dsenglandauthor.com has links to Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Apple where my book is available in paperback and kindle versions.
HBR: What is the key theme and/or message in the book?
It is the story of one young woman’s journey to find the best within herself. But really, my ultimate goal was to make it as entertaining as possible.
HBR: Are you working on anything at the present you would like to share with your readers about?
I am. And I would just say that if you like “I’m Just a Girl” you will love what I am working on.
