The emotional highs and lows in life are often such an inner struggle we all have to face at one point or another in our lives. Finding the right outlet or path in which to come to terms with those moments, stay with us in life, and are often some of the more difficult battles we will have to face. Whether it is therapy, communicating with loved ones, or finding a creative outlet, finding the means to make peace with the defining moments of our lives is crucial to moving forward and gaining new experiences along the way.
Author and poet Constance Breen’s The Pockets of My Brain is an emotional and heartfelt collection of poetry. The author takes a creative spin on crafting an intense and passionate collection of poems which speak of loss, family, and what it truly means to live and move on. Through these engaging poems, the author connects to readers through the shared memories of loss which have fueled us all, at one point or another, in our lives.
What a powerful and emotional read. The author’s words and feelings are enthralling as the reader delvers into the beautiful tapestry the author paints with their words. The concept of loss and grief is exposed early on in this collection, exposing the fear and pain that can burst through in those freshest of moments and the hardship that comes from trying to overcome that sudden void in our lives. Yet on top of the concept of loss comes a theme of hope and life, as the author delves into beautiful memories and hard-learned lessons that speak to us all.
This is the perfect read for those who enjoy poetry. As a fan of the genre and as someone who has experienced tremendous loss in my life, I can honestly say the author’s words not only hit home for me, but resonated in a big way. The raw emotions and the strength it takes to continue living your life without that person who has meant so much to you is something that is both personal and universal, and the author’s ability to weave humor and truth into the highest and lowest moments of life through these poems is just incredible.
A memorable, heartfelt, and thoroughly engaging read, author Constance Breen’s The Pockets of My Brain is a remarkable and emotional must-read collection of poetry. The thoughtful and artistic way the author approached such a sensitive and important topic and weaved the fabric of everyday life’s most joyful and sorrowful moments into one creative project was brilliant to see unfold, and should definitely not be missed.
