Having an opened mind to what political views author Luisa Mirella Plancher had within The Strength of the Nation pleasantly surprised me. What I found was an honest and hopeful book which pointed out if we all work together we can make a better world: politicians no longer fighting and sticking to different sides of the aisle, people being willing to lend a hand and help others in need, and a return to faith as a cornerstone.
Set up as episodes, we see the author being taken on journeys with an Angel to open her eyes and show her realities and solutions. I do believe in divine inspiration from heaven, so that was not a stretch for me. It is often in our quiet moments that we are able to see truths.
Much of the book was about turning our thoughts and actions toward Jesus. As a Christian, I too believe He is the way. Meanwhile, I also am impressed by those of other faiths who live good and devout lives based on their religions. I believe groups of good people working together can bring a change which is much needed in this world.
My fear over political affiliations was pleasantly not realized. While there were some things I don’t agree with, I like being exposed to new ideas and arguments. I think if we were more open to others’ opinions the world the author described could actually be realized.
I did find the book a little idealistic but not necessarily in a bad way. I was a little letdown because I was perhaps expecting to see smaller more actionable goals for such a diverse society that could be implemented.
Easy to read with a breath of fresh air brought by pictures, I found The Strength of the Nation was a thought-provoking book which made me turn my view inward as well as focusing on the world around me.
