Equality, Injustice, or What? by Ollie Marshall-Rico is an unflinchingly adroit memoir whose tenacious voice of truth echoes beyond the borders of Orange, New Jersey, where the author resides.

In this book, Ollie tackles the delicate issues of race, injustice, and discrimination which have continuously occurred in the hands of reprobate law enforcement officers, in a beautiful blend of courage, experience, excellent storytelling, and resolve.

Naturally and poignantly, the author calls attention to this persistent tragedy that continues to haunt the black community for decades now, resulting in thousands of innocent deaths that would have been prevented if justice and equality were exercised. Her passion for speaking for the black community that longs for impartial and unbiased treatment is remarkable and phenomenal.

It is evident from the first page where her family history is highlighted that she was a victim of the ugly, traumatizing and painful mistreatment her family endured at the hands of unqualified law enforcement officers. It is said that the law enforcement career requires the highest ethical standard which is to let justice roll freely like a never-failing stream. However, several officers have no regard for work or social ethics. In the author’s family case, for example, they had no regard for giving her black parents fair treatment as they did with the whites.

Her experience as a motivator not only pushed her to write an amazing book ,but one which also encourages readers to stand up and condemn the vociferous voice of injustice and prejudice against thousands of black citizens in the United States. In her own words, she says, “The sad thing about these situations is that too many black or minority individuals have lost their lives due to unwarranted actions taken at liberty by some officers during law-enforcement actions in too many cases.”

Equality, Injustice, or What? explores moving incidents that have occurred with blacks, an effort that helps readers understand the importance of having capable, accountable, well-trained, and disciplined officers; who uphold their oath of office without fail. Her voice throughout the read is firm and her views have been beautifully presented in a lyrical way which is well-written with a concise and accurate use of language. With this writing style, she’s able to encapsulate ideas with minimum words while communicating directly to the souls of many readers.

Altogether, this well-researched and thought-provoking and impelling gem by Ollie Marshall-Rico models qualifies as one of the most influential civil rights books on the shelves today.
