One thing that everyone in this world has in common is that we all have secrets. Some of us have secrets which are more personal or small in nature, while others hold onto secrets that can be damaging to both themselves and others around them. The danger of a secret lies within the scale of the secret and who it impacts. As French dramatist Jean Racine once said, “There are no secrets that time does not reveal.”

In author Rosalinda Haddon’s A Double Life, A Single Love, A Sinclair Story, the author delves into an intense erotic spy thriller like no other. Set in the 1950’s, the story follows Tommy and Hannah, a wealthy couple living in New Jersey. Tommy, with long-standing ties to the Mafia, found himself working as an agent for Interpol and the United States, and his wife became involved soon after. Now in what is considered book two of this erotic adventure series, the young couple is called back into action to catch a counterfeiter, who is selling fake currency in multiple nations, threatening to collapse the world economy. Tommy must navigate a dangerous world he loves to thrive in, while Hannah must balance her love for the danger her marriage to Tommy brings with the fear of losing him and the traumatic events of her own childhood.

This is a unique and creative read. As a newcomer to this series, I can see how having some background from book one could help to better understand some of the characters and their relationships. However, the author does a great job of focusing on the main narrative and providing just enough context to feel connected to the characters. What really surprised me was the characterization of the antagonist of this story. He was a unique character, as his actions and behavior towards his wife and child were awful, as was his criminal behavior, but thorough examination of his childhood and his own personal struggles made his journey much more layered and complex. Without getting into the specifics and spoiling the narrative, the character struggles with something that many people can empathize with, and novels such as this are perfectly written as a layered villain with characterizations that readers can sympathize with make for a much more engaging narrative overall.

This novel was the perfect read for those who enjoy action, adventure, and erotica all blended into a more romantic storyline. The balance between these genres definitely makes for an adult reading experience, and yet the layers of romance intertwined with the more physical nature of the main character’s relationship helped add depth to the genre.

An expertly woven, entertaining and steamy action and adventure romance, author Rosalinda Haddon’s A Double Life, A Single Love, A Sinclair Story is a brilliant read for fans of this genre. A great deal of action that brings to mind classic James Bond style storytelling with a dose of intense romance, readers of the genre won’t be able to put this book down.
