A Father’s Love: Joyous Hope is an uplifting and inspirational novel about how faith can overcome any obstacle. Jean DeFreese Moore has written a book that will inspire readers.
A Father’s Love tells the story of Reid Britt, a judge in frontier-era Kansas. He tries to instill law and order in his small town and escape his past working for the Department of Justice and evading the mob. While he tries to rebuild his life with his wife, Chipeta, and his large family, he tries to restore order to his town in a way that could end up jeopardizing his own life.
The novel tells a compelling story about a man’s attempt to overcome physical and emotional pain through his faith. Reid is an honorable and relatable protagonist that tries to maintain his integrity while fighting crime around his home. He also fiercely defends his children and is a devoted loving father. Chipeta is a strong, supportive wife that is more than the stereotypical Native American woman that needs saving from a White man. All of the characters in A Father’s Love are well-developed by DeFreese Moore and readers will easily identify with them as they strive to survive on the frontier.
A Father’s Love has a spiritual theme that resonates throughout the novel. When Reid faces difficult situations through the novel, he quotes Bible verses often and uses his faith to guide him in his life. DeFreese Moore has written about faith, family, and love in a compelling and seamless way.
The imagery in A Father’s Love is also a main feature of the novel. DeFreese Moore writes about the sprawling Kansas prairies and horses that roam around Reid’s land so well that readers can easily imagine themselves in the Old West. The descriptive imagery of the frontier lands gives depth to the novel.
A Father’s Love would be best for readers who like Western fiction from authors like Cormac McCarthy and Louis L’Amour would like this gritty, but heartfelt novel. The novel would also be best for readers who like Christian fiction will also like this book’s strong spiritual messages. Even though this is the third book in a series, readers can easily follow this novel as a stand-alone novel. A Father’s Love shows how a man can make a difference in his own life and the lives of others through love and faith.
