David Alvord’s Albert’s Journey Through the Mountains is a fantasy-fiction novel filled with action and adventure. It follows the journey of a man named Albert. He lives happily in his decent house in the Hollow by the Stream with his three daughters, but that changes when his master visits him and requests to slay a three-headed beast.

The occurrence of a three-headed beast of an unknown origin is raising havoc, and Albert is destined to fight with this beast. After overcoming obstacles and making acquaintances, Albert finally comes face-to-face with it. As the plot progresses, we see that there have been whispers concerning the reappearance of another villainous character- Evil Sorcerer Brak Zorak, who had been wreaking havoc on faraway nations with his dark army and the same three-headed beast as his pet. Albert didn’t believe the rumours were true until he was picked to combat the three-headed beast, Brak Zorak’s dark army of death, and Brak Zorak himself. It is an exciting tale of Albert’s fateful journey to face evil.

The characters are painted interestingly, especially the protagonist. We see his character development as he starts as a small, scared person who develops courage as he gets closer to his fateIn that way, the portrayal of Albert is relatable and realistic. Albert gets a power-up when he meets one of the strongest wizards, who gives him a legendary sword. The character of the three-headed beast is designed compellingly. The scenes involving the beast manage to build up tension while reading, which adds to the appeal of the writing style. The story is fast-paced, making it easier to follow Albert’s adventure. The actions and fights in the tale are well written, especially Albert’s battle with the three-headed beast, which is captivating.

The villainy of the three-headed beast is enjoyable. Even though the book’s first part is predictable, it takes an interesting turn towards the end as the story ends with a cliff-hanger, which is worth praising. It has the potential to fascinate readers, as it is packed with action and battle scenes. Readers who like fantasy and action stories will appreciate the narrative. The ending suggests that the author may have plans to continue the novel. Therefore, the story does deserve a sequel.
