Reading Ashes to Strength: Criminals Never Forget makes you understand why life is a puzzle that not many can resolve. The tales, juicy as they are, make one think about the bigger picture, the purpose everyone has in this life, and how the Universe operates. Author Steinar Kruse did a wonderful job in passing across multiple life lessons through the characters and their roles. This book will make you enjoy crime action as a genre, and appreciate mystery books. Ashes to Strength: Criminals Never Forget is the ultimate page-turner if you are looking for a thrilling novel. I like that the author tries to be engaging with the reader in every chapter.
We follow the story of Nils Henrik Ellefsrud as he navigates the complexities of life. Nils Henrik Ellefsrud was living a decent life; he had a family he loved, worked to provide for those that relied on him, and had a community he could lean on. Nils Henrik Ellefsrud also enjoyed being by himself and almost always had a plan for everything. He was innovative and could find solutions for most of the problems he faced. This was until the tragic day he lost some members of his family. On this tragic day, Nils Henrik Ellefsrud received news that his cabin had gone up in flames and he had lost the most precious things in his life.
Nils Henrik Ellefsrud soon finds himself in hospital, by his side is just his daughter. What happened to his son and wife? Mr. Ellefsrud’s life changes dramatically as he has to adapt to this new model of living without half his family. Apart from the loss, the reader realizes that Ellefsrud has other unfinished battles that present themselves after particular occurrences. As you read on, you realize that grief and loss are traumatizing and can ruin one’s mental health perpetually. I was fascinated by Nils Henrik Ellefsrud ‘s story not just because of the tragedy, but also because the author made him a tough and cryptic character. One is able to see the many phases of Nils Henrik Ellefsrud and how he handled each of them. I love that the subject of identity is broadly portrayed through this character.
Ashes to Strength: Criminals Never Forget is a book you read and never forget about. The plot has twists and turns, as the characters keep surprising the reader. I was impressed that the author enjoys giving details, and will write about the minutest thing, such as the process of combustion on a piece of wood or how an emotional wreck a character can be. Steinar Kruse will include every adjective and phrase known to man when describing characters and their actions, making the story longer and spicier. The other feature that makes this book a worthy read is how unpredictable the main characters are. I enjoyed how diverse the author made the characters, and how they perfectly fit for their roles.
I recommend Ashes to Strength: Criminals Never Forget to readers who fancy literature which revolves around tragedies, mysteries, and identity.
