Author Interview with John Nieman
Today we are talking to John Nieman, author of “Political Heat.”
HBR: What inspired you to start writing?
As an international businessman, a world traveller, father of five, former actor and director…I had many stories in my soul. So I took a crack at it. 26 books later, I am still writing.
HBR: How long have you been writing.
For 25-30 years.
HBR: Does one of your characters hold a special place in your heart?
If so, why? Graham Kruse reminds me of me. Dedicated, talented…but with flaws.
HBR: What is the inspiration for the story?
I find that politicians are susceptible to dalliance. Not just Cuomo. Also Trump. Also Bill Clinton. Also JFK. Hard to resist, I guess.
HBR: What is the key theme or message of the book?
Despite intelligence, hard work and commitment to a job, human nature can bring you down.
HBR: What do you hope your readers take away from the book?
Graham Kruse was not a bad guy…but just a flawed individual on a personal, sexual inclination.
HBR: What is the significance of the title?
Two meanings: one is the drive to work overtime to do well in public service. Two:The temptations to find relief from people of the opposite sex.
HBR: Tell us about the process of coming up with cover.
Originally, I painted it. I wanted to tease that this politician was comfortable on podium…but loved having a beautiful woman around him who would offer free kisses. Eventually, I decided to go with a photograph.
HBR: What is the future of the characters?
Will there be a sequel. Nope. I have written over 25 books and never created a sequel. This one has its own ending.
HBR: Are you working at anything at the present you would like to share with your readers?
I am finishing my third children’s book—this one on the owl that landed on the Rockefeller Center tree. Also, I constantly create art…and have exhibited all over the world, including 12 solo shows.
