Interview with Thomas Johnson
Today we are talking to Thomas Johnson author of “I Know Why Young Men Rage.”
HBR: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I have been writing since age fourteen discovering the wonder of a child. I have a gazillion questions and this what drives me, inspires me to see the beauty of life.
HBR: What was the inspiration behind your book, “I Know Why Young Men Rage”?
My real life experiences and my insatiable quest for answers to what lies just around the corner, out there.
HBR: What themes or messages do you hope readers take away from you novel?
The fact that we need community to exist to be healthy and whole physically, spiritually, and emotionally.
HBR: One thing that you mentioned in one of your early chapters was the impact of women on relationships with men and how it affects young men. What is one lesson readers who are interested in your book can take away that reflects one of the root causes of the disconnect between men and women in the modern age?
The importance of the appreciation for the sound of the human voice. The voice of a woman to a man and the voice of a man to a woman is crucial a paramount to see a person of importance in the building of relationships. We used to read to each other a lot more before technology started doing the job for us. Yes the computer, the cell phone and all the apps are faster but not better. The most important part of hearing another person’s voice ,hearing them reading to us is the moment of listening. In order to hear someone we need to prepare our minds to listen to what they have to say. We talk how we listen. When we listen we see a person of importance to make a memory. The lesson I hope that my readers will take away from my book is the habit to stop and look into the other persons face and listen to each other and a share the moment to make lifetime memory.
HBR: What would you say is one experience that has fundamentally shaped your viewpoints on this topic and led to you pursuing this book to begin with?
My experience of growing up in a society that has treated women in horrific ways of disrespect and indecency in general.
HBR: If you had to choose one fundamental lesson throughout this book to impart on readers, what would it be and why?
That nothing can take the place of a face to face heart felt eye to eye conversation and that a life without relationships of love and respect we are nothing, and we have nothing of value. It is the moments that we treasure when all is said and done. It is the memories we make in the sharing of the gift of time that keep us going. Life is not living unto one’s self. The true wealth a person has is found in the wonder and the miracle of being a part of a community.
HBR: What would be your biggest piece of advice for upcoming or aspiring authors/writers who want to craft a comprehensive science fiction or fantasy mythology or mythos?
Listen to life. Every sound tells its own story. It is the story that everyone already knows that needs to be retold again and again to carry the next generation onward. This is the rest of the story.
HBR: Now that you have published your book, what are your future plans? Any other novels in the works?
I have already started a Christian Sci-Fi novel about the power of the cross in our modern age. I hope to have it ready by 2021.
