Hollywood Book Reviews

Part military spy thriller, part scientific discovery fiction, Deeptide …Vents of Fire has it all. This adventure takes you on a ride that could very well someday be a reality. It sparks your imagination and leads you to worry what is really out there that is still undiscovered. In this book, follow two female heroines, who could not be more different, through the undersea voyage of a lifetime.

On a quest for DNA of new life, in the world’s greatest unexplored territory, the ocean, Susan and Jennifer hope to find a promise that could help rid the world of disease. What great discoveries this could lead to, and none too late for quirky scientists. However, these new technologies have the potential for even more powerful outcomes, including those for evil. Because of this risk, the military, covertly at first, gets involved on this great discovery mission. What follows are tales of unknown worlds and military action which could have lasting consequences.

With a few unexpected love stories thrown in with the chase, this is a tale of epic proportions. The ocean, as the backdrop, is described in a way that is both intriguing and dangerous at the same time. When the scientists talk of this place, or lecture, you can tell the sheer awe that it has for them. At times, though, they are at the mercy of its great depths.

You could tell by reading that great research and knowledge came into play with the authors; I found this particularly educating and enlightening on topic of submarines. The writing was clear, although I did admittedly have to go back and re-read some of the “military speak.”

This is a great story where the heroines win hearts and find courage along the way whether in the sea or above it. The story really makes you ponder what is out there. I recommend “Deeptide… Vents of Fire” by Donald Ray Schwartz and Steven Evans to those who like fast-action, drama and a good thriller mystery.
