The complexities of life and death often wrap themselves around themes of destiny. The idea that the universe is a living, breathing thing and it has orchestrated the events of our lives can be a complex concept to accept in this modern day and age, and yet the hope that we are “destined” for something far greater than we know, is an idea that allows a person to not only feel meaning in their life, but to strive to better themselves to fulfill that destiny.
It can be said that in that case, our actions are the catalyst for destiny. This idea is perfectly orchestrated in author Pat Queen’s Destiny Delivered: Twann from T’Nikwa. The story follows archeology students Antoine and Skylar, who mysteriously appear on another world after becoming trapped in a cave. The world has two moons, indescribable animals they’ve never seen, and strangely a plane flying in the night sky. Living with a strong ESP ability most of his life, Antoine quickly becomes overwhelmed with a wave of emotions, and they decide they have to move in order to reach their home. Through a series of events, the two become fast friends with a native young man of the world named Buji, and the trio are soon adopted into a local tribe. The two scholars must adapt to their new circumstances as an emerging prophecy involving the three of them takes center stage.
The author did a remarkable job of world-building in this sci-fi and adventure novel. The depth of emotional storytelling and imagery in the author’s writing really allowed this fictional world to take shape all around the protagonists. The chemistry between Antoine and Skylar is the perfect slow burn as their harrowing journey and the changes they undergo, as they endure this alien world will keep readers invested in this lengthy novel. The balance of character growth and world-building allows the reader to get fully lost in this narrative, and the mystery element of this world and how they got there, as well as the mystery behind this prophecy naming the protagonists, made the narrative more thoughtful and memorable as well.
This is the perfect read for those who enjoy science fiction novels, especially those who enjoy action and adventure narratives, complex character studies, and cosmic, metaphysical tales of other worlds and the concept of destiny. The action and adventure help elevate the more thoughtful questions about life and our place in the universe which this story brings to life, and the emotional bond readers form with these protagonists as their story unfolds will keep readers eager for more exhilarating tales from this wonderful sci-fi author.
