There is a reason fantasy continues to be one of the most popular book genres, and that is because there is no limit to the imaginative stories writers can come up with when they create their own worlds. D.C. Corrigan is not lacking in the imagination category, as this story is packed with elements from all over the fantasy landscape. It mixes magic, a little medieval weaponry, and new-age weapons to create epic battles on the pages.
The story of Dawn of the Guardian is lengthy, which may be a detriment to the book, but it does offer a lot of value. At over 600 pages, Dawn of the Guardian could have easily been broken into two books to make the story a little easier to follow. When the most significant criticism about a book is only its length, you know the book will be good.
Readers are treated to an experience nothing short of epic as you are emersed in another world; it is clear that D.C. Corrigan poured his heart and soul into this story with the amount of detail in creating this world. The beginning of the book is filled with maps, illustrations, and even an alphabet to help immerse you in this world. There are so many races and factions, all with their own technology and powers, which sets up epic battle scenes.
There is a lot to love about this story, but the best part has to be that it is non-stop action. There is never a moment of downtime in this book that allows your brain to wander. D.C. Corrigan still does an excellent job at storytelling, so it doesn’t feel like you are disjointedly jumping from battle to battle, but there is a lot of action in this book. He writes in a way which makes the action feel cinematic, even though it is words on a page. Corrigan also makes classic fantasy elements like magic seem fresh by looking at them from a new perspective.
If you love fantasy action novels, à la Game of Thrones, you will absolutely fall in love with Doomsday Warriors. The amount of detail and thought which went into creating this world is astonishing, and there is no doubt there will only be great things to come from the Doomsday Warriors’ world. The great news is with so much going on in this book, there is plenty of re-read value while you wait to see what D.C. Corrigan comes up with next.
