Jean DeFreese Moore takes readers on an affecting journey in her sequel, A Father’s Love: Justice and Forgiveness from the first book in the series, A Father’s Love: Faith and Family is an emotional Christian fiction text that delves into themes of love, devotion to God, romance, courage, and purpose. It is centered around the remarkable story of Reid Britt, whose father, a retired federal marshal, has a deep relationship with God. Similarly, Reid shares the same faith and strives to do good. He encounters an Indian girl, Chipeta, who has been brutally assaulted and ends up pregnant. Reid promises to marry and protect her from shame and society’s ostracism so her child is not born out of wedlock.
When Reid gets a job as an undercover agent, he shares the news of his imminent departure assuring them he has bagged a job at a law firm. Instead, he is thrown into the ruthless underbelly of organized crime and human trafficking. Back home, the family is consequently put at risk by Reid’s double life with Chipeta getting a miscarriage from yet another attack. With Reid away, she slowly learns to adapt to her new settings with the help of his family as they all put trust in God for their safety, and his safety and eventually see his undercover job in a new light.
Jean DeFreese Moore delivers a redemptive, atmospheric, and beautiful story which manages to plunge deep into the yearnings of the human soul. The characters in the story are unique, interesting, and deftly painted. Their backstory, aspirations, strengths, and frailties add conclusive depth to their personality. One of the things which makes this story intriguing is how the characters change and grow within each situation. The author’s writing is intelligently structured and flows with fluency. Maintaining the right balance between action, description, and dialogue results in lucidity and is an astute way of tying together all the story elements.
Artful use of scriptures creates a multi-dimensional impression and further accentuates the messages within as readers are bound to stop, pause, and reflect – eventually managing to pluck at our heartstrings towards bringing fiction to life. A Father’s Love: Justice and Forgiveness can be read as a standalone story and judiciously manifests Moore’s virtuosic skill.
