Author Lindy Kerr has created an adorable and informative illustrated children’s book titled, God’s Amazing Creation: The Story of Seeds, in which she shows how seeds make food, and thanking God for each step along the way. The concept of showing children the details of planting seeds, the variety of types of seeds, and the way seeds are dispersed, is truly an original and brilliant way to teach kids about sustaining a food source. Really, come to think of it, seeds growing into plants, fruits, and vegetables is truly an amazing process, and Lindy Kerr is respectively thankful to remind us of this being God’s gifts to us.
The illustrations are perfectly matched to the text, as the book progresses with various types of plants along with their corresponding seeds, and dives into the minutia of details teaching children how to go about germinating seeds into plants, especially paying attention to the amount of watering best to grow seedlings. There is this cute ladybug in each picture which brings an element of humor and wisdom to the story making it an artistic element kids will seek to find in each picture. The book is not only dedicated to God, who created the Universe, but softly holds Bible Scriptures interleaved within the teaching lessons, reinforcing the Christian faith-based belief of creation.
Between the artistic drawings, the steady and knowledgeable progression of details, the facts about seeds, and the biblical references, this book balances each aspect with a persuasive and indelible teaching to children; without which how would one expect kids to understand where food comes from? So many things are taken for granted by all of us, and it is refreshing to have such an amazing gift and process of seeds growing food brought to readers’ awareness.
God’s Amazing Creation: The Story of Seeds is just what the title says – it’s amazing, it’s about seeds, and it reminds us seeds are one of God’s creations. This book would be ideal for children in their single-digit years, and with the entertaining inclusion of the ladybug, it makes the story become approachable, having kids following this bug’s adventures, learning the lessons along with the readers.
God’s Amazing Creation: The Story of Seeds would make a welcome addition to all family libraries, or an ideal present for a youngster’s birthday gift. I would actually go on further to state that adults reading this to their children will also enjoy the wisdom of Lindy Kerr’s creation. She puts rhetorical questions within the text, allowing for adults to open discussions with their children on the many topics covered. Hopefully, the author will do other books on different amazing gifts from God.
