Grace, Mercy and Love is an emotive and moving memoir by Maxine Chisholm that lets readers into her life while giving real-life testimonies about the remarkable transformation of her life through God’s loving mercy and grace.
Author Chisholm accentuates that the Holy Spirit inspired her to write her life story as a survival guide to help save someone out there, who is on the verge of giving up, to experience the overwhelming love of God and his desire to restore the broken pieces. Having gone through physical and emotional abuse as a child, homelessness, an unsuccessful marriage, and suicidal thinking, the author was broken. Little did she realize that God’s unconditional grace would redeem her. Her testimonies serve as an example of a Christian, though faced with adversities leans onto the shoulder of a loving Father, who does not discriminate or judge.
I enjoyed reading Grace, Mercy, and Love. Every so often, we stumble upon a text that captures our thoughts and emotions most overwhelmingly. This brilliant book does just that. The author asserts that God loves us even when we lose our way. She further affirms that storms of life will be present but God assures us that He will walk with us even through the shadow of death. His perfect love for mankind is casting out fear as we encounter these extreme trials of life.
This is such an absorbing and uplifting memoir. Chisholm’s spiritual encounters are peppered across the chapters. The diction is encouraging and the melding of Chisholm’s life with scripture passages is refreshing and therapeutic to readers. I loved how the author did not present a near-perfect example of herself but instead presents her flaws and weaknesses and the ultimate self-crucifixion to readers. This makes her story believable and authentic. I loved her honesty and bravery to tell her story. Along her life journey, anger set in, hopelessness, frustration, and confusion but she did not allow these emotions to fully override her faith in God.
This book is beautifully written and readers will find it a perfect resource to look up to from time to time. It is a life celebration of overcoming life’s storms and flourishing against all odds. Moreover, readers will find themselves reflecting on God’s unconditional grace, mercy, and love.
Grace, Mercy, and Love by Maxine Chisholm is an exceptionally helpful and thought-provoking book to drop into the hands of anyone going through adversity. It is worth some valuable time.
