I Remember Running is a skillful and original novel written by Vernon Bargainer. It is a sequel to It Is Morningby the same author and also a stand-alone novel.
The author introduces us to Lorrie Dean, who’s wedding to Andy is cut short when she is kidnapped by unknown people on her wedding day. The two had been reunited after twenty years as Lorrie’s family had been placed on witness protection for their safety.
The book focuses on two aspects. On one hand, Andy’s all-consuming mission in life becomes finding a way to rescue his soulmate from the hands of the kidnappers, and the aftermath of the guilt and tormenting thoughts of the whole ordeal as their relationship now hangs on a thin thread. On the other hand, Andy’s close friend, Kelly, is struggling with the sudden appearance of her estranged mother who abandoned her when she was a child.
It was endearing to see the length in which Andy was willing to go to help his wife heal from the physical and emotional trauma which she underwent during and after the kidnapping. Prominent themes across the chapters are friendship, endurance, and survival, which the author has brought out so beautifully. The author has explored Christian values as well while examining the concept of unconditional love among couples.
I loved every aspect of the book. The language is easy to understand and the ending was satisfactory and left no cliffhangers. I Remember Running is a type of book that should appeal to a multitude of readers. I think the author did an excellent job of telling the stories of the characters side by side with no one story overriding the other. Further, having breathed realistic life into all the characters, it was hard to imagine this story as a work of fiction.
Captivating in every way, fans of well-written and genre-bending work of fiction will find I Remember Runningby Vernon Bargainer highly appealing.
