One of life’s toughest moments has to be when a parent watches their child grow up and leave the house to find their own place in the world. Whether that moment comes when they leave for college, get their first apartment, or fall in love and marry their soulmate, these moments exist when a parent has to come to terms with the fact, they cannot protect their child any long from the harsh reality that is life. For many, the struggle to find a means of still being there for your child in some way is difficult to overcome, as there are many experiences you know are heading towards your child on a collision course.
In author Chuck Denison’s It’s Not About the Money: Creating a Fulfilling Life, the author, through his son, shares the lessons he learned throughout his storied life in a personal book with his son. After his son got married, Chuck gifted him a small book he wrote to help guide his son through the lessons he learned the hard way. As his son shared specific chapters with others and interest grew, the small book broke out onto a larger platform, and through years of meeting interesting people and sharing incredible experiences, the author hopes to bring a small nugget of priceless wisdom with his son, and through him, with us all.
The author truly brought the personal touch to this inspiring read. The fast-pace of the book allows for the author to pinpoint and showcase the lessons of each chapter with precision and ease, and yet the impact of those lessons are felt through the author’s vivid life experiences and thoughtful approach to the subject. The imagery the author utilized throughout their writing style allowed readers to really conjure the experiences the author was conveying into their mind, which made the lessons feel more meaningful than it would have otherwise.
This is a tremendous read for those who enjoy non-fiction biographies and memoirs, especially those with a quick pacing and a personal connection between the author and the subject of their book (i.e., the author’s son). The focus on life lessons and the author’s life in general kept me, as a reader, invested in the narrative, as the way the author honed in on themes and lessons such as kindness, friendship, and love made the book feel truly relatable and inspiring.
Thoughtful, heartfelt, and engaging, author Chuck Denison’s It’s Not About the Money: Creating a Fulfilling Lifeis a must-read memoir and biography read. The way the author wrote the original book to be so personal and connective to the author’s son, and yet feels so relatable on a much grander scale, made this quite a memorable reading experience, and the format of the author’s writing not only keeps readers hooked but keeps the lessons very interactive, challenging us all to face each day and ask ourselves what we are going to do with it.
