The book Metamorphosis of a Young Maiden is a romantic story of love and connection that gives insight into how a relationship move through the ebbs and flows and provides goals of an honest growing relationship. With a series of letters and some comments to add more insight, readers see a relationship become an everlasting story of companionship. It makes you crave having such an honest and pure relationship at least once in your life.
It is rare today that you even receive a letter, particularly one as open and honest as the letter these two exchanged. I find the thought of relationship growing through letters to be very romantic. Something about taking the time to put pen to paper and write of emotions and love leaves me wanting.
I loved reading how when they two first met, there was a big age gap and Shelly was just a young child. It was a remarkable story of how love finds a way and life has a way of happening how we least expect it. It is very revealing to see how Shelly grew more into a woman as she was exposed to an intimate relationship.
There is not much you can say about how the book is written as it is a series of personal letters. I felt like just enough information was presenting to put yourself in the couple’s story. As for the story line, there is a natural progression present throughout the letters. I would have maybe liked a little more commentary outside the letters to see what was going on in life and the world at that time, as I think it would have given greater insight into the relationship.
Overall, I found this to be a beautiful love story – one worth mirroring. And I would love to go back when letters were a thing as they seem to have so much more power than just an email. I would recommend this book to the romantics and those young at heart.
