A man’s life is saved through religious experience in this unusual book of inspirational anecdotes and exhortations by writer Ron Ziegler.
The author gradually unfolds the story of his life before his discovery of Jesus and Christianity and after, in a series of episodes designed to show the miraculous nature of God’s love for humanity and for him personally. A first chapter reveals that his wife Karen was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s a year after he had had a significant encounter with God, which led him, a lifetime alcoholic to that point, to stop drinking. His concentration on helping Karen delayed for a while his later role as a dedicated spokesperson for God who would take any opportunity to reach out to others through scripture. But even that role came about as a result of a series of divinely infused coincidences.
Ziegler, now in his seventies, meets with various people in a multitude of settings. Through listening to them or following a special impulse that occurs to him inwardly, he offers direct assistance and shares gospel lessons that seem directly meant for them. Meeting a homeless woman, for example, he made her laugh, and afterwards she wanted to know more about his beliefs. In his work for the homeless and for prisoners and veterans, he developed materials about and pictures of Jesus. He spends much of his time distributing these materials, and advises readers to listen, as he does, for signs that God may be directing them toward a better life.
Ziegler is a reformed person who sincerely wishes to help others, and this theme is strongly illustrated throughout his book. He reports on his dreams and experiences, and those of others, which point the way to God’s presence and more Godly living. Once he dreamed of bananas and realized he needed more potassium in his diet, for a small example; and for a grander instance, he had many dreams of fear and grief, prayed for relief, and immediately felt a sense of pervading peace. It will seem clear to the reader that the further the author immersed himself in the acceptance of God’s will, the more often and more obviously he had these remarkable encounters.
The author writes in a plain, unvarnished manner that gives his recollections credence, and offers many references both written and visual to support his convictions. Readers looking for spiritual guidance and those gathering in religious study groups will want to consider Ziegler’s Seek Me and You Will Find Me: I Did and I DID as a practical, devotional resource.
