Having a dog in your life is an adventurous experience; you never know what they will do next. Any who has owned a dog knows their intelligence, loyalty, silliness, and the comfort the bring. In this anthology, Leonard W. Lindros Jr. takes readers into a world of dogs: his dogs. As readers read about his beloved pets, they also get a glimpse into what life was like for Lindros growing up and as an adult.
Leonard W. Lindros, Jr. has an enchanting way with words, which he uses to bring each of his beloved dogs to life. One could almost her Spots’ vocal sounds of happiness, or Niki’s attempts at being a hunting dog. He includes pictures of some of the dogs so readers get a good image of the dog and get a strong sense of their personalities through the pictures. There is a wide range of dog breeds within this book, that it is easy to fall in love with each one of them.
This is not a typical memoir in that the focus in on the dogs rather than on Lindros’ life. He does talk about things in life, but more in relation to the dog and what was happening around the time each dog was a part of his life. While reading through the stories, readers can almost feel the love and respect Lindros has for the dogs in his life, whether they were owned by him or by friends or family. It feels as though you are listening to the author speak rather than reading his words. The short anecdotes are easy to follow and get lost in. One would start reading the novel and look up to realize hours have passed by.
Whether you own a dog or not, this book is such a heartwarming read. Memoir lovers, and animal lovers; especially dog lovers would love reading through this collection of tales (or would it be tails?) From one dog lover to another, readers would enjoy seeing someone else’s beloved pets. It is always a pleasure reading words written out of love for an animal/pet. Leonard Lindros, Jr. does a beautiful job at telling his stories, and hopefully will inspire someone to adopt a new pet.
