In Orville Mann’s The Adventures of George Lee: A Race Against Time, some nefarious world powers are keen on starting World War III. They have created a super weapon strong enough to wipe out the United States of America. When the enemy’s plans are intercepted, a team of military and civilian expert’s adept at carrying out high-risk missions are quickly assembled and dispatched to an isolated island in order to create a device strong enough to destroy this threat. Captain George Lee is tasked with leading this team and preventing World War III at all costs.
The mission gets underway smoothly, but tensions soon rise as spies infiltrate the base, and the enemy forces work tirelessly to sabotage the mission. George has a strong Christian background and believes in God’s ability to make the mission successful. He repeatedly commits its successful completion to God’s hands and thanks Him as he progresses. The other members of the team also share this faith. Amid the tension, George gets a pleasant surprise in the form of the intelligent and beautiful Laura. They fall in love rapidly. He always finds time to make Laura feel loved, even when facing chaotic situations.
Author Orville Mann’s knack for storytelling provides sufficient background information and is woven into the narrative with ease. The language has military flavouring, which also complements the narrative. The writing is straightforward and highly descriptive. There are a lot of details which aid the imagination, down to the characters’ food preferences. The story emphasizes unity and showing gratitude. George’s communication and leadership skills are admirable, as he repeatedly finds ways to connect with the assembled team and make them feel appreciated. He does this while maintaining a good level of firmness, which creates a good balance.
There are also discussions on farming methods, and processes and different ways to store food over winter, which will interest the agriculturally inclined. The supportiveness and genuine care characters show each other is heart-warming. Harry Collins, the first sergeant and right-hand man of George, and in fact, the entire team’s efficiency and ability to move in sync with George, portrays the cruciality of having the right support system and staff.
The Adventures of George Lee: A Race Against Time is an action-packed narration of the valiant efforts by George and his team to save the world from impending doom.
