Science Fiction novels take a lot of dedication to write – more than people may even realize. They are not simple whatsoever to tackle, so when someone does so expertly, it is something to be celebrated. It also is not an easy task to merge two very different genres such as Science Fiction and Suspense novels into one book, yet that is precisely what has happens in The Annihilation of Allison Station: A Science Fiction Mystery by D.L. Mac McDonald. It is done so in a way that is seamless in its execution and will have any reader enthralled with the story paged before them. The plot itself surrounds the aftermath of a highly classified test facility which is built on asteroids and its sudden decimation. With no survivors to speak of, Don Wallace and Takira must solve the mystery before it’s too late, and more destruction comes their way.
While this book definitely leans more towards being an excellent read for primarily science fiction fans, there are still plenty of great aspects to it that also has it crossing over in genres, making it a book that should garner fans of all varieties. The dialogue flows incredibly smoothly and is easy to follow while there are plenty of action scenes to go around as well to keep readers on the edge of their seats. Furthermore, the alternating timelines build the intrigue to this intense mystery and as the events proceed throughout the novel, you will feel as though a movie is playing out in your mind. The fact the author was able to also make it so readers would still be able to understand and follow the complicated conversations between the Brinari is a seriously impressive science fiction writing technique.
With this novel having been thirty years in the making, you can feel the passion and dedication from the author and his writing flying off every page. This book is bound to be a hit with science fiction fans everywhere, to be sure, but I also suspect it will convert many readers into science fiction lovers after one readthrough of The Annihilation of Allison Station: A Science Fiction Mystery by D.L.
