Finding love in the modern age is one of the most difficult and most discussed topics we have in our society today. The idea of what love is and how we define our relationships has quickly changed with the advancement of technology and social understandings. The use of digital dating apps and people’s perceptions changing in regards to monogamy have made it difficult for those who are seeking long-term relationships to find someone to be with. Men in particular have become known for their tragic behavior in the dating world, as “hook-up” culture seems to be running rampant through the dating world.
The idea that a man who has spent his life spending his private time with any woman he meets in his local home town becomes the central premise to author Noelani Sky’s The Bachelor. The story follows two people, one a mixed bag kind of local hero and outlaw who has spent his entire life “pleasing” every woman he comes across in his small hometown. The other is a young woman who has experienced hardship, struggle, and tears in her past as she discovered the world to be dangerous and mistrustful in her experiences. Yet when the two meet, the man discovers he may have found the woman who makes him want to settle down. While his past may come back to haunt him, his love for this woman may be the key to unlocking her own heart in the process.
The author has crafted the perfect balance of heart and heat in this erotic humorous novel. The eye-rolling, hilarious interactions and mindset that befalls protagonist Pain Waterford will instantly keep readers chuckling and drawn into the narrative, while Francesca Copper brings in the emotional balance the narrative needs to make readers feel invested in these characters and their journey both separately and together. The wit and charm the atmosphere takes on and the descriptive nature of the author’s writing style allowed the reader to fully get lost in the story, as both the setting and the cast of characters really came into view and became almost cinematic in its delivery.
The narrative itself is a gripping tale which will resonate with fans of humorous books, romance, and true erotica at its core. The aspect of the story that felt fresh and real to the modern age of dating and romance was the concept of going against the grain and what we think of as traditional relationships. For so long people have agreed that there is always someone out there for “you”, and yet those who don’t fit neatly into our society are often ostracized and made to feel this sentiment isn’t true, and yet these characters challenge that perfectly. The tension which builds and the eye-rolling yet engaging humor of these situations will keep readers hooked until the very last page.
