For many people around the world, the start of winter is all about the holidays. Whatever holiday or practice you celebrate, the December is going to be filled with festivities, family, great food, and a certain twinkle of magic only the holidays can provide. Children especially love this time of year, and one lesson many parents are always seeking to instill into their children as they grow is the power that giving and helping others can give us instead of just taking all the time.
Well, that lesson is truly prevalent in author Nanette Crighton’s holiday children’s book, The Christmas Spryte Encounter: Giving. The story follows a young boy who notices a child in need outside of the school grounds. Taking the time to help feed the young boy and subsequently the boy’s sister, the boy meets a friendly spryte named Giving, who helps give the boy the power and courage to further help the siblings who need a helping hand.
The author really did a great job of finding that perfect balance between holiday magic and wonder with the emotional storytelling and character development which will help children to learn all about how giving to our fellow man can be such a blissful and heartwarming reward unto itself, especially during the holidays. The artwork was able to capture the warmth of the message and the coldness of the settings perfectly, and the selfless nature of the protagonist in this story really meshed well with the magic and holiday wonder that the spryte brought into the narrative.
This is the perfect read for both children and parents alike, and those who enjoy holiday-themed children’s stories with a heartwarming and educational message. As a fan of holiday reads in general, it was such a brilliant and emotional story that showed the genuine joy and love that can come from putting others before ourselves and helping those who cannot help themselves. The pacing of the narrative too was perfect for parents who are hoping to have a new and entertaining read to share with their children, allowing the gifts and experiences the protagonist is helping to give to these children in need to unfold in their own time.
Emotional, thoughtful, and heartwarming in its delivery, author Nanette Crighton’s The Christmas Spryte Encounter: Giving is a must-read children’s book this holiday season. The simplicity in which the author delivered these messages to the readers showcased the complex emotions that people can feel when giving to others and showed the true meaning of the holiday season is not in presents or owning the most expensive piece of hardware, but in helping others to feel whole and cared for when the world has left them behind.
