Hollywood Book Review

The Dating Policy is an exciting and provocative novel about workplace romance by Suzanne Eglington. The novel is a timely novel about how dating a co-worker can get very complicated. The Dating Policy tells the story of Mallory Kennedy, a customer service expert who takes a year off from dating to change her standards to find the perfect man. After a year, she falls in love with her office’s quality control manager, Todd Duvall. While they build a relationship, they have to overcome the office policy against co-workers dating each other. Their relationship also encounters more complications when a person from Todd’s past threatens their future together.

The Dating Policy is a novel that has great appeal and has intriguing characters. Mallory is a modern woman who enjoys sex with many partners, but also craves a romantic monogamous relationship, too. Mallory also has to deal with her attraction to Todd and her attempt to preserve her rising career. Todd has a complex love interest in the story as well. Though he is a beautiful “Scandinavian Viking” with flowing blonde hair and cool blue eyes, he has to contend with a lot of tangled romantic issues of his own. Even supporting characters like Angela is a trusting confidant who advises Mallory on how to navigate dating in the workplace in the Me Too era.

Eglington’s writing is so fast-paced and witty; it defies the typical romance novel. Though Mallory has to deal with many serious issues, there is a lot of levity when Mallory gets tongue-tied and bumps into Todd at work. Eglington captures the current dilemma working women face when they have to be professional at work, but want a personal life with a co-worker as well. Eglington’s writing is also a nice mixture of erotica and romance, making the novel hot, but not too hot, for readers. Her writing also has a mixture of steamy love scenes and romantic tender moments between Mallory and Todd.

The Dating Policy would be best for readers who like romance novels with a risqué edge. Eglington’s writing would also be best for readers who like workplace romance novels like Two Weeks Notice by Whitney G. or The Naked Truth by Vi Keeland. Additionally, The Dating Policy could be read in many book club discussions and spark many discussions about love in the office. The Dating Policy is a novel that readers will love to read for a realistic and romantic take on love.
