When it comes to life’s decisions – and particularly the outcomes of those decisions in our lives, there is a time where people must ask themselves – what brought them to this point in life? For good or bad, people seek answers to life’s toughest questions, and one of those questions is whether or not the paths which present themselves to us are due to our own choices, or if they are a matter of fate itself. The idea defining how fate itself could bring a sense of destiny to our lives helps to connect us all to the Universe as a whole.
In author Jessica K. Schneider’s The Shifter’s Oath: Darkling Chronicles, the author tells the story of two people from two different walks of life who find their paths linked together by fate. Sophia, a young woman with a mysterious past and struggling from a recent loss, meets Hunter, a man and part of the lower class of citizens of their society known as a Puck, who is struggling to prevent war from breaking out. As he and Sophia’s paths begin to draw closer and closer together, they must work to prevent an all-out war between the races as a terrorist attack looms over them all, and Sophia’s mysterious past and recent hallucinations shed light on her true origins.
The author did such a fantastic job of world-building in this novel. The mythos and story development the author showcased in this book, from the different class systems within this society to the history of both protagonists and the world, make this such a compelling and fascinating read. The powerful imagery and rich atmosphere really help elevate those storytelling elements, and the incredible chemistry the author is able to establish between Sophia and Hunter kept me engaged with this narrative wholeheartedly.
This is the perfect read for those who enjoy fantasy driven narratives, especially those who enjoy fantasy mixed with modern-day storytelling, military action, supernatural and mythological themes, and powerful mythological figures as well. As a fan of mythos and supernatural storytelling, the way the author was able to find the perfect balance between the two and showcase how both of these worlds could coexist with one another made the story shine brightly, and kept me invested in the world.
Mesmerizing, haunting, and entertaining, author Jessica K. Schneider’s The Shifter’s Oath: Darkling Chronicles is a must-read supernatural and fantasy thriller you won’t be able to put down. The twists and turns in both the world building and the character development, especially the origins of both protagonists, will floor readers and keep them on the edge of their seats, eager to see where this narrative goes in future books.
