There is one Science Fiction trope I will always wholeheartedly be enthralled by and that is time travel. The thought of it one day being a reality is something that intrigues me to no end and I would definitely love to see it come to fruition during my lifetime. Based on what is constantly being discovered in this realm by scientists in our society, I wouldn’t doubt this one day could actually happen before our very eyes. And that is precisely what we explore in Time Machine Emergency by author Dan Busby.
In this novel, Busby writes of a professor and his young protégé, Derek, who discovers that time travel is real and he knows how to accomplish it. At first, Derek keeps this to himself, but inevitably he needs to involve his professor, which will benefit them both by the end of this story. See, the world becomes overtaken by a nuclear war and while they have not done nearly enough testing to safely time travel without the risk of one of them being lost in oblivion, they know they must take that risk regardless to save humanity as we know it. Thus, they go on a mission far back into history to meet a great warrior and monarch and save his life so he can help them, in turn, save the world. We are talking about none other than Alexander the Great, who historically drank himself to death.
But these two men change that part of history when they get him sober and keep him that way to win the fight in the present day, only to realize it still hasn’t changed things for the better. Ultimately, they have to go back once again, this time to the 15th-century, with Alexander still in tow and attempt to make the world a better place one last time.
The great thing about this novel is while it’s a shorter read, it’s a fast-paced and intriguing book that leaves you on the edge of your seat the entire time. You will constantly be trying to guess what is going to happen next to these amazing characters and the new worlds they find themselves creating through the act of time travel. I, myself, could not bring myself to put it down and I don’t think you will be able to either.
So if you’re a Science Fiction fan or a time travel nerd like myself, or even if you just enjoy an intricately detailed plot-driven book with plenty of action and adventure throughout, this one is definitely for you!
