Tribes of the Chrysalis: A Crowning of Thorns is a stimulating book which will make you think deeply about life and the environment you are in. Tony Ward wrote about fascinating stories, capturing the readers’ attention with his interesting and refreshing style. Tribes of the Chrysalis: A Crowning of Thorns is an easy book to follow because of how short the chapters are. Every chapter displays a different side of people you may not have known existed.  Tony Ward’s writing can be described as composed, gripping and out of the ordinary. The reader gets a sense of enjoyment when moving from page to page, as the stories becomes more compelling.

The author starts the book in a hospital setting. The introduction tone, flow of events, description of people and places, and the phrases the author use are my favorite elements in his writing. In this book, you get to see life from the perspective of Tony Ward and those he associated with. Tribes of the Chrysalis: A Crowning of Thorns follows the story of dedicated men, who above everything treasure life and spirituality. After being divorced and getting some guidance from his counselor, the narrator went on a journey to Sedona, Arizona, to join other men who were battling life issues. The journey to Sedona would be life changing, as here, men opened up, helped each other with personal problems and grew together emotionally and spiritually.

As you read every chapter you realize that every person is fighting silent battles. Among the many tales told, one in particular had me reflecting on certain matters. The chapter on “The Growing of Thorns” was a little overwhelming to read, as the story is of self-esteem issues, mental health problems, family battles, feeling like a loser, not achieving set goals, among other things. Another chapter which was fascinating for me was “Age of Aquarius.” I enjoyed going through this chapter because almost every story felt inspirational. There tonal change in the text in this chapter was enthralling and encouraging. I felt motivated and challenged not just by the stories told, but also by the lessons being shared.

Tribes of the Chrysalis: A Crowning of Thorns is a great book for readers that love real stories and real issues. Apart from the narration being flawless, I also loved the light moments in the text. The comic relief was much needed – especially after reading crushing stories. This book can make a good self-help book that also reads like a charming novel.  I got life tips from the author, and was crammed with spiritual, physical and mental healing by the end of the reading. I appreciate the authenticity and the different writing style the author applied in the book. This book received “Starred” acclaim because of the excellent diction, engaging nature of the author, and modesty displayed by Tony Ward. I recommend the book to readers who are looking for inspiration material which is entertaining and engaging.
