Julie Verzani Potter charmingly chronicles her story through different stages of her life in the book Un-Shackled. Julie is a modest author whose style of narrating is delightful. The author gives tales of her career, family, friends, and life in general. One of the many things I appreciated in the book is how tender the author was with words. The reader may not fully relate to all of Julie’s experiences, but her wording made one feel as if they journeyed together. From the book, one can tell that Julie is the girl next door. She does her things in a simple way and tries to be kind to everyone. Julie has so much love to give as one can tell from the tales in the book.
Un-Shackled is an excellent book for readers who fancy reading biographies and real-life stories. Julie Verzani Potter is not only encouraging but also ambitious. Her deeds motivate one to be more reliable and work towards making the world a better place. Julie talked about many things. My favorite topic and chapter were when the author narrated about her new life in Christ. The author keeps the story interesting as she talks of her experiences and interactions with her friends. I loved this particular chapter because the lessons to be learned were endless.
I learned the importance of having close friendships and how to be a firm believer. We learn how fellowships are relevant and how they help students in Christianity. The author gave us a glimpse of the life of missionary students and how living in Christ enabled them to bond. Another favorite chapter was on making new friendships in Christ. Its impressive reading on how evangelism and mission work has helped save souls across the world. You may not know that you need to change your life until you try living life as Christ wanted us to.
One glorious thing about this book is that the author does not hold back. She talks about everything she has been through. There are highs and lows in her life and days where she felt challenged. The author, however, narrates using a mild tone that one cannot help but admire her strength. I enjoyed reading about her personal life, her wins, losses, and achievements. I enjoyed reading how Julie and her husband met. We see how lovely love is through the couple’s union. The reader also learns about different countries, cultures, and ways of life of various people across the globe. Julie visited many countries including India, Mexico, China, and Brazil. The virtual trips were fantastic.
Un-shackled was written for people that feel lost and want to find purpose in their lives. Following Julie through her happy and challenging times is what makes us understand that life is not one smooth ride. We also learn the importance of family and keeping those we love close. I appreciated going through the graceful family photos the author shared in the book. Un-Shackled is an incredible book for those who enjoy simple reads which have revealing life lessons.
