For many people in the world, the need to escape the life that they find themselves stuck in becomes a constant daydream. The harsh reality of life is people are rarely born into the life they desire for themselves. It can be difficult to escape the stagnation or troubling issues which plague a person’s everyday life, but in the end, all a person can do is find the strength within themselves to make the changes necessary to make the life they desire a reality.
In author Ercell H. Hoffman’s USA Anytime Anyplace, the author explores the psychological struggles of a young woman as she seeks to make the life she wants for herself. Living in a dangerous neighborhood and working a job she feels discriminated against, Kithira struggles with feelings of both love and hate for the people surrounding her, as well as the community in which she lives in. Yet after she meets a young pregnant girl named Diea, who has fought against a past of physical and sexual abuse, Kithira sees in the young girl a chance to rise above her own challenges and embrace a destiny of her own.
The author did a fantastic job of character development. The deep psychological dive into the protagonist’s mindset and how they relate to the world around them. Instantly the author was able to craft a narrative through this character which allows the readers to recognize a vulnerability and relatability which the protagonist exuded. The dynamic atmosphere and the way in which the author is able to craft a character which feels flawed yet engaging make the book just sing beautifully. The positive nature of the protagonist getting secured with a psychologist who helps guide the character through these challenges was also relatable and rewarding to see come to life, encouraging readers to do the same.
This is a remarkable psychological fiction read, as well as a heartfelt drama and endearing fictional genre novel. The hurdles that Kithira has to overcome, from the treacherous discrimination that she feels in her work environment, to the desire to love and be loved as she wrestles with feelings for her former therapist, and the overall emotional and mental journey the protagonist goes on in this novel will keep readers invested in the overall narrative, and impressed with the rich dialogue and analysis of the protagonist’s overall mindset.
