One of the biggest talking points in politics and social situations amongst Americans over the last several decades has to be the healthcare system. While many other companies have figured out ways of providing its citizens with proper healthcare, there seems to be a constant battle amongst people and lawmakers in particular in how the government can help provide healthcare in the best way possible. Yet more often than not, people see the ways in which modern medical healthcare systems in the United States have become more like a business than anything else, with proper care near impossible without a job that provides health insurance.
In the book You Have Time to Die and Go Broke by author Linda Salerno-forand, the author provides a fast-paced guide book which showcases the struggles people face during their time in the healthcare system, and how patients can get the best care possible when dealing with the system itself. Whether it’s facing doctor’s lines to get care, health insurance companies, or hospital administrators, readers will gain insight and knowledge to get the care they need most.
One of the first things readers will notice is the author’s emphasis on planning and setting goals for your finances when it comes to healthcare. Far too often, doctors will prescribe or patients will self-assess their own health and find quick solutions that seem cost-effective at the time. Much like other aspects of life however, quick fixes have ways of turning on people, and when those fixes fail, they end up costing much more than the initial cost would have. The emphasis on sustainability and the way the author was able to hit on a hopeful atmosphere as they guided the reader through these strategies was inspiring to read.
This is the perfect read for those who enjoy non-fiction books, specifically those that focus on business, wealth, and industries as a whole, as well as books on the healthcare profession and the health insurance business as a whole. The amount of detail the author is able to provide for readers regarding various health care departments, from mental health care and primary care doctors, to the emergency room and being admitted into hospitals in general, helped outline the strategies and practices the author lays out throughout the book, and allows the reader to begin truly planning and outlining their own healthcare journey to prepare for the unexpected in life.
